Microsoft Dynamics Add-In for Excel sign-in not persisting

We have users who raised an issue that the Excel add-in for D365 stopped persisting logins in early May, which is causing them problems with desktop automation flows. I see the same behavior. There isn't an error, just every time the file is opened they have to click Sign In.

Is there a resolution for this? Is this the planned behavior going forward?

Should all be current versions:

Add-in version - 7.1.26096.01

Excel - M365 current and Current (Preview). 2606

    Hi @Brent Hawthorne

Based on the information you provided, I understand that your users have been hit by an incredibly disruptive issue where the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Office Add-in (version 7.1.26096.01) stopped persisting login sessions. Even though no explicit error codes are thrown, the add-in completely drops its credentials every single time an Excel file is closed, forcing users to manually click "Sign In" upon reopening. This broken single sign-on (SSO) behavior is severely breaking your headless desktop automation flows (RPA/Power Automate Desktop) that rely on background data refreshing.

Based on my research, the issue stems from a major platform-wide update to the Microsoft Authentication Library (MSAL) framework rolled out around May 1, 2026. Please refer the following thread:
